The Start To His Career

Nico Theron started his tax career at a small accounting firm in Midrand. Nico, soon realised that if he wants to be an expert tax adviser, he will need to find employment with a professional services firm with more challenging client engagements and with the opportunity to learn from industry-respected tax professionals. In pursuance of this goal, he took an opportunity to be a corporate tax compliance consultant at an audit firm based in Sandton with the aim of working his way into the consulting division.

After just a couple of months, he was promoted to the consulting division and later manager where he remained employed for a couple of years. After having gained valuable tax experience in the audit environment, he deemed it crucial for his career to move into a consulting role with a more legally orientated approach to tax consulting. Some 4 years after having joined the audit firm, he took an opportunity to join a consulting firm where he was later promoted to partner.

During his just short of three-year tenure there he assisted the managing partner to strategically place the firm on the map as a respectable tax firm, building up a team of lawyers to defend taxpayers against SARS and providing a wide range of tax consulting services.
